Proton, a Malaysian automaker, is considering a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution version to its porfolio. We have seen the Inspira launched a few weeks ago, which is based on standard Mitsubshi Lancer. And now, Proton showed off its Jebat Concept at the Kuala Lumpur Motor Show, which is designed to appear much like the Mitshubishi Lancer Evolution.
The Proton Jebat Concept is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that was originally used in the less powerful Ralliart model. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is said to produce about 237 horsepower.
From the photos, the Jebat Concept is much like the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. It is nearly an exact copy of the standard Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. It’s only differentiated itself from Mitsubishi’s by a matte black front and rear fascias and side sills, along with a Proton grille and logo.
So we are pondering, what’s the news here? Basically, nothing is new here. This is probably the last time that we will ever report on anything about Proton. To us, Proton is pretty much an aftermarket manufacturer that is used by Mitsubishi to rebadge its products under a different name.
