BMW 1 Series M Coupe is officially stripped

After the sing and dance, BMW finally releases its 2012 One Series M for the world to see. We have the video yesterday, and sure enough as predicted, BMW has officially taken the wraps off of its scorching new 1 Series M. What lies underneath the hood?

The BMW 1 Series M Coupe is powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine just like we had expected, but producing 335 hp and 332 pound-feet of torque instead of the 350 hp like we had estimated. BMW makes up for the less horsepower by adding an overboost function that provides an additional 37 lb-ft of at full throttle. This enables the BMW 1 Series M Coupe to accelerate from 0-60 will in just 4.7 seconds with top speed is electronically governed at 155 miles per hour, bah!

To transfer the power, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is only available with a six-speed manual gearbox. Similar to most M cars, the BMW 1 Series M comes with an M Drive button on the steering wheel that helps throttle response along with an M Dynamic Mode button that allows assisted driving as well.

The 2012 BMW 1 Series M Coupe is a few inches wider and longer than the 2011 135i coupe but weighs about 77 pounds lighter. Its curb weight is about 3,296 pounds. All and all, the BMW 1 Series M Coupe is much like the 3 Series M coupe.
