Fiat Group, which owns about 20 percent of the stake in Chrysler, had decided to rebadge the 2011 Dodge Journey crossover as a Fiat Freemont for the European market. The 2011 Dodge Journey has been revised in all aspects of interior, exterior and powertrain.
The design improvements over the refreshed Dodge Journey are considered to be held at a minimum. The Journey was given minor exterior design changes, a revised interior and a modified suspension. As a Freemont model, it is certain to get Fiat’s 2.0-liter turbo diesel unit with 170HP instead of the Journey’s VW-sourced 140HP 2.0-liter diesel engine.
The shift to promote the Journey as a Fiat may be due to Fiat’s gigantic 5,000 store retail network, which will help boost sales of this 5+2 seater crossover.
According to Autoweek, the Freemont will be unveiled in Geneva, with sales beginning in June 2011. The Freemont will be built from Chrysler’s plant in Toluca, Mexico, and exported to Europe.
