2012 Camaro Z28 with supercharged V8 to begin production in January 2012

The highly awaited 2012 Camaro Z28 was caught on video when it was making its routine testing on the Nurburgring. Chevy will begin the production in January 2012, according to Becky D. from Rodgers Chevrolet, a dealer who attended a National Chevrolet Dealer’s meeting.

BeckyD@RodgersChevrolet has provided the following details of 2012 Camaro Z28 to Camaro5.com:

* 2012 Camaro Z28 production begins January 1, 2012
* Internally referred to as the “HP Model”
* 6.2L supercharged engine
* Magnetic Ride suspension
* 285F / 330R tires
* Hood design to have louvre/slat design seen in spy photos (dealers in attendance were shown a gray Z28 model)
* Slight (not major) updates to the interior, with some brighter trimwork

Becky D. also mentioned that the 2012 Camaro Z28 is scheduled to arrive in dealerships by this summer. In addition, GM informed dealers that it is planning a 45th Anniversary special edition package with a “carbon flash color”, all black interior and unique wheels for both the coupe and convertible models.

For the first time in 25 years, the Camaro coupe is outselling the Mustang for the calendar year of 2010, according to Autodata Corp. sales figures. And Chevrolet is continuing the onslaught of the 2012 Camaro Z8 supercharger, but Ford will be countering with its release of a second V8 Mustang next year to stop Chevy in its track. The competition is heating up, and that is a good sign that the car market is rebounding from its sales slump. Meanwhile, check out the 2012 Camaro Z28 in action in the video below.
