Honda is recalling the 2009 and 2010 model year Fit vehicles in the U.S. due to potential damage of the valve springs, which affects 97,201 cars. The lost motion springs are located in the valvetrain which may bend or break gradually due to the compression forces exerted on them by the rocker arms, leading to irregular engine noise as well as damage.

Based on information from Honda, no accidents or injuries have been a result of the defective valve springs. Honda will begin informing customers by postal mail at the begining of March, and have them take their cars for an inspection at Honda ddealerships.

Owners of the affected 2009-2010 Fit can find out more information at or calling the company’s hot-line service at (800) 999-1009 and selecting option 4.
