It seems like 2011 is the year of the returning of the station wagon platform. Just recently, we’ve experienced an onslaught of station wagons released from major auto manufacturers, even down to Hyundai with its i40 station wagon as well. Now, BMW is introducing a newer version of the Alpina B5 BiTurbo station wagon, which is based on the new 5 Series Touring model, to smoke the competition.
The new BMW Alpina B5 BiTurbo station wagon is powered by the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 as the sedan. It produces 507 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Power is shifted through the rear wheels with the help of an eight-speed sport automatic transmission. The Alpina B5 BiTurbo station wagon is no slug, these modern station wagons are fast. BMW claims it can sprint from 0-60 in just under five seconds and with a top speed reaching 187 mph.
As always with BMW fast vehicles, the Alpina B5 BiTurbo station wagon also comes with an aerodynamic kit to show off its prowess along with BMW’s signature 20-spoke wheels and Alpina trimmings as well.
We are witnessing a new trend of the sporty station wagons, and we’ll see more battles ahead when these sporty station wagons bang heads with one another.
