Rejoice, VW van fans! Volkswagen today released the Bulli Concept at the Geneva Motor Show to resurrect the hippie-van into the modern day. Ten years ago, VW introduced the Microbus Concept but the plans to create a modern Microbus were never see the light of day. And now the new Bulli Concept is designed bring back the sense of peace, love and freedom like back in the 70’s.
The Bulli Concept stresses on practicality and simplicity. Just like the 2001 Microbus, the Bulli Concept is simply a modern-day people-mover that was similar to the hippie-van in the 70’s, but with the full suite of modern technology such as an Apple iPad that controls all infotainment center and the Fender premium audio system. The interior of the Bulli Concept van provides a 3×3 seating configuration. The seats can be retracted to create a bed for those outdoors camping by the beach.
To maximize the environmentally friendly of the Bulli Concept, it is powered by a 40 kWh electric motor with juice flowing from a lithium-ion battery pack. The battery pack will last up to 185 mph before having to recharge. While these performance numbers are not really a concern in such a relaxing van like the Bullie, but here they are, just for fun: a 0-62 mph sprint time is about 11.0 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 87 mph.
Shall we say, “2012 Woodstock, here we come?”
