Chrysler is revising the 2012 Dodge Caravan minivan for commercial operation. The new commercial van is called the Cargo Van or Ram C/V, which comes with dual sliding doors, solid panels in the place of the rear windows and a flat loading platform.
The Dodge Cargo Van engine remains the same as the Caravan, it is powered by the same 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine producing 283 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and that is plenty power to haul any heavy equipment that could fit into the van. The V6 engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
Chrysler claims that the powertrain provides a fuel return of 25 miles per gallon highway, and we expect it to be around 18 miles per gallon city. To improve gas mileage, drivers can select a fuel economizer setting that changes the transaxle shift schedule with a flip of a switch. Driving range for Ram C/V will be around 500 miles with a full 20-gallon tank of gas.
As for storage capacity, the Dodge Ram C/V boasts a 144.4 cubic feet of space, and able to withstand a 1,800-pound cargo payload with a towing capacity up to 3,600 lbs. To fit for commercial duty, the Dodge Cargo Van is fitted with heavy-duty suspension system to handle the heavy cargo. Even the a heavy-duty radiator and transmission oil cooler are added to sustain long delivery trips.
