Audi will introduce the 2012 R8 GT to the U.S. market, which will carry price tags starting at $196,800, compared to $114,200 for the entry-level 4.2-liter V8 model and $149,000 for the standard 5.2-liter V10 model.
The 2012 Audi R8 GT gets an amount of performance and design improvements over the standard Audi R8 V10 model. The 2012 Audi R8 GT is fitted with more aluminum and carbon fiber to reduce the overall weight, which including the revised carbon rear hatch, spoiler and front splitter.
The 2012 Audi R8 GT will be powered by a version of the 5.2-liter FSI V10, but has been tuned to 560 horsepower. The engine is coupled to Audi’s R-Tronic sequential transmission that transfers power to a four-wheel-drive system with a locking rear differential.
The weight savings of 220 pounds over the Audi R8 Coupe 5.2 quattro, power increase, and sequential gearbox enable the 2012 Audi R8 GT to sprint from 0-60 miles per hour in just 3.6 seconds, and with a top speed of 199 mph.
Audi plans to introduce only 90 units of R8 GT to the United States, so get your hand on one won’t be that easy.
