The new 2012 C63 AMG Coupe is officially out since its debut at the Geneva Motor Show a few weeks ago. The new Mercedes-AMG coupe is more edgier with unique sporty appearance that combined with a powerful drivetrain to show off its muscle.
So how powerful is this new coupe? Well, Mercedes-AMG worked up its own 6.3-liter V8 engine to produce 451 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque at peak. With the new found power, the 2012 C63 AMG Coupe is able to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in a mere 4.4 seconds with a top speed that is electronically limited to 155 mph, bah! Now that is fast for a sports luxury coupe, but the new 2012 BMW M5 will have something to say about it in a few months. We’ll see when it comes out.
Who needs a manual transmission when you got a fast shifting automatic gearbox. Mercedes-AMG equipped the 2012 C63 AMG with the AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed sports transmission with standard “Controlled Efficiency” mode. This is the same transmission found on the 2012 C63 AMG Sedan. In the “Control Efficiency” mode, it delivers more comfortable up-shifts while keeping the minimum achievable engine speed to improve fuel economy; in other words, cruising mode. The unique “S”, “S+” and “M” modes deliver increased responsiveness that can be select with a rotary control knob. These “sport” mode provides faster gear changes, higher revs, and rev-matching in “S”, “S+” and “M” modes. Gear changes in the “S+” and “M” modes take just 100 milliseconds.
Want more power? Mercedes-AMG also offers the AMG Development Package, which gives the 2012 C63 AMG Coupe a total power output of 481 horsepower. This optional package uses forged pistons, connecting rods and lightweight crankshaft adopted from the Mercedes-AMG SLS gullwing model to save about 6.6 pounds. The reduced weight of the internal parts enhances the responsiveness of the high-revving V8 engine. This enables the 2012 C63 AMG Coupe to propel from 0-60 mph in about 4.3 seconds with electronically limited top speed of 174 mph. In addition, the AMG Development Package comes with high-performance braking system with two-piece front rotors and red painted brake calipers, a carbon fiber trunk lid spoiler and the AMG performance steering wheel wrapped in premium leather.
Not only the new 2012 Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe is fast, it also looks good inside as well. The instrument cluster and center console are cut in high-gloss black piano lacquer while the dashboard and doors include aluminum trim with optional carbon fiber or wood trim. And the instrument cluster with integrated screen that displays three separate round gauges giving you vital information on speed, engine rpm, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The steering wheel is equipped with multifunction buttons and paddle shifters, while the four sports seats are donned in leather with horizontal stitching. The rear seats can be folded down to expand cargo space.
The 2012 C63 AMG Coupe will make its showroom debut in the U.S. in September 2011, and we expect pricing will be announced a week afterward.
