Hyundai introduced the all-new 2011 Sonata at the Los Angeles Auto Show just a few days ago. This is the latest version of the popular midsize sedan for North American with Hyundai’s “Fluidic Sculpture” design language and an all four-cylinder engine lineup to the U.S. market.  Production begins at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama in December with retail sales beginning in January.

The new 2011 Hyundai Sonata with the all new Theta II 2.4 gasoline direct injection four-cylinder engine  that is mated to a six speed automatic transmission.  The new direct injection engine is expected to deliver 23 mpg city/35 mpg highway with 198 horsepower.  There is also a 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged GDI four-cylinder engine and Hybrid Blue Drive models to debut by 2010 year-end.  Other additional features include XM Satellite Radio, real-time XM NavTraffic, XM Data Services, HD Radio Technology, Bluetooth, Touch-screen navigation and iPod/USB inputs.

The 2011 Sonata represents a modern approach to the traditional midsize sedans by using smaller four-cylinder engines as to six-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines. The sleek, luxury design, combined with Hyundai’s expertise in interior packaging, has produced an interior that delivers class-leading comfort, functionality and practicality.

DtorBill:The result follows Hyundai’s strong overall showing in J.D Power and Associates’ 2009 Initial Quality Study SM (IQS), when the brand ranked fourth among all nameplates, behind only premium brands Lexus, Porsche and Cadillac. Now keep crying…

Uhm, interesting… You even didn’t know the difference between Canary Islands and Canada and now, coincidence… you know both places :) Well, anyway, what I wanted to say is simple: In those islands, the people know between each other, perfectly and believe me… some reason that people have to keep buying Toyota :) And the Hyundai’s marketing is HUGE here, unlike Toyota’s. See you

  • DtorBill

and… joAmoRecords…:You have written at least three times the same comments with different accounts on Hyundai’s videos… I invite you to compare between the rest of cars of the same segment and if you are objective, you will choose another car, for sure. It’s like comparing a Kia Ceed or Hyundai i30 with an Auris <– Ridiculous comparison. Smart, objective people would choose Toyota, FOR SURE. (Better engines, quality, safety, materials, etc. etc.)

  • DtorBill

On the other hand, I’m just writing what I know (because of my job). Dishonest companies talking about ecology (hypocrit) or saying garbage of comments on TV against Toyota like ‘worried for being bigger’ when Hyundai, in proportion invest three times the budget of Toyota for marketing, while, Toyota invest three times what Hyundai does for improvements with its cars. Toyota has created history making the best cars possible, unlike Hyundai. Anyway, I love this world, happy for everybody :)

For people without culture, education, knowledge. Before anything, in Canary Islands almost the biggest korean population in Europe. Just try to understand…On the other hand, I’m not critizing Hyundai, although there are several points to do it (bad transmisions, mediocre engines, etc.) but trying to talk respect to negative and irrelevant comments against Toyota without reason. What I have seen is ‘hatred’ against Japan, which is terribly sad, especially because… both countries are Asian

Test drove one today. One word. HOT! Comfortable, roomy interior with tons of style and gadgets. Very smooth powertrain. Ride is very smooth. Even SE sport suspension is smooth at highway speed. A bit pogo-like around town. GLS rides smoother, but doesn’t handle quite as flat. Two complaints: 4cyl 200hp engine feels weak to be the stand-alone engine. The SE-equipped paddle shifters are useless. They turn with the steering wheel, so you can’t use them while turning from a stop.
