2011 Jeep Compass SUV starts at £16,995 ($27,783) in UK


The new 2011 Jeep Compass, which is the economic version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, will start from £16,995 ($27,783) for the base model and up to £23,995 ($39,227) for the top-range model.

We see much resembling of the 2011 Jeep Compass to the Jeep Grand Cherokee. At a glance, it could be mistakenly for 2011 Grand Cherokee model. But in the 2011 Jeep Compass model, it received a fresh exterior styling and a revised interior along with a few new engines as well.

The 2011 Jeep Compass SUV is available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations to make up the four trim levels offered in Britian. And these trims are the entry-level Sport, Sport+, Limited and the 70th Anniversary versions.

As for the powertrain, there are three different engines available for the 2011 Jeep Compass SUV. The base model gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 158 horsepower and 141 lb-ft of torque, and it is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Moving up is the 2.4-liter gasoline engine which has an output of 172 horsepower and 165 lb-ft of torque, and it is mated to a continuously variable transmission.

Diesel engines are very popular in Europe, which Chrysler is making it available in the 2011 Jeep Compass SUV. The 2.2-liter diesel engine is offered with two levels of power output of 134 hp and 161 hp, with torque output reaching 236 lb-ft. Both diesel engines are mated to a six-speed manual transmission.

In addition, the Freedom Drive I 4×4 system is offered with the 2.4-liter gasoline engine or with the high-output diesel engine. The full-time active 4WD system features a locking mode for low traction conditions, which controls the amount power to the front wheels and rear wheels as needed.

As for standard equipment, the 2011 Jeep Compass comes with automatic climate control (except for the entry level), electric windows, electrically operated and heated folding exterior mirrors, remote central locking, and CD-player with MP3 compatibility.

The 2011 Jeep Compass will go on sale in the UK on April 15, and it is offered with a three-year or 60,000-mile warranty.
