If first you don’t succeed, try and try again. After canceling the Cadillac XLR Roadster in 2009, Cadillac is planning to bring back the Cadillac convertible in 2013, which will be based on the upcoming 2013 ATS as well as the next-generation CTS.

The new 2013 Cadillac convertible will be built on the upcoming Alpha platform that also will be found in the 2013 ATS and CTS models. To reduce cost and stay competitive, the new Cadillac convertible will have a soft-top instead of a hard-top like the 2009 model. And it is aimed to compete with the likes of Audi A5 cabriolet, BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS and Mercedes E-Class convertibles.

Power for the new 2013 Cadillac convertible will be from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine to a V6 engine, and up to a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 556 hp on the Cadillac CTS-V model.

Unlike the expensive 2009 Cadillac XRL Roadster, Cadillac promises that its pricing will be competitive to other convertible sedans in its segment. And it is expected the Cadillac convertible to make its debut somewhere in 2013. If such a wait is too long, you can bring your Cadillac to the guys at Droptop Customs to make it a convertible for you.

Keep it a soft top GM. Just sold an Infiniti G37 hard top because of lack of trunk space. Replaced it with A5 soft top. The soft top is quieter and leaves space for weekend luggage or packages when shopping. Far more convenient.

Let us hope Cadillac becomes a style leader again, and not a follower. For too long that great name has been to tentative and cowardly to be bold, glamerouse, and whats’next’not warmed over Benz.Stop hinting at fins, create sweep in the body, and boldness. And please drop the boxy look.Get inspired and courageouse.Than Cadillac will be desired again and not purchased out of loyalty or as a second choice.

It is not out yet.  The 2013 Cadillac ATS just came out last week, and the last time we’ve heard, GM won’t make a convertible version due to the lack demand. However, GM is planning to make a coupe version, which will be out in 2015.
