Hyundai is planning to debut its new i40 sedan at the upcoming 2011 Barcelona Motor Show on May 12th. Today, it released a teaser sketch of the new i40 sedan that will be slated for the European market to compete with the likes of the Opel Insignia, VW Passat and Citroen C5.

The Hyundai i40 sedan is designed by Hyundai’s European R&D center in Rüsselsheim, Germany. So far, we know little details of the new i40 sedan. According to the company, the Hyundai i40 will have dimensions of 1025 mm for front head, 1455 mm for shoulder height, and 1170 mm for leg room, which provided with a wheelbase measuring 2.77 meters long. All and all, the new Hyundai i40 sedan will be similar to the i40 station wagon that was debuted back in March at Geneva Motor Show.

“We have used very strong, fluid lines from front to rear to give i40 a distinctive appearance,” commented Thomas Bürkle, Chief Designer at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre. “We wanted to move away from the typical three-box saloon and create a car that was in keeping with the sporty nature of the i40 estate. By sculpting a low, elongated roof line, we’ve given the i40 saloon a striking coupe-like silhouette,” he added.

The new Hyundai i40 sedan should expect to get the same current engine lineup, including a 1.7-liter turbo diesel engine and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine for the European market.

Stay tuned, we’ll have more details when the new Hyundai i40 sedan rolls off the red carpet at the Barcelona Motor Show.
