Toyota has just announced a voluntary safety recall on certain 2006 and 2007 model year Highlander Hybrid and RX 400h vehicles due inadequate soldering of certain transistors on the control boards of the Intelligent Power Modue (IPM) located inside the Hybrid System Inverter.

Toyota states that these inadequately-soldered transitors could be damaged by a large current flow during high-load driving, which would cause the vehicle to enter a fail-safe driving mode or shut down of the hybrid system completely.

About 45,500 Highlander Hybrid and 36,700 Lexus RX 400h vehicles that were sold in the States are affected by this voluntary safety recall. Owners will be notified by mid-July to bring in their affected vehicles for a repair free of charge.
