Ford is planning to release the F-Series Super Duty plug-in hybrid truck in 2013. Azure Dynamics and Ford signed an agreement, which will kick start the Super Duty plug-in hybrid truck program, and it is expected the first batch of the Ford F-Series Super Duty plug-in hybrid trucks to arrive at Ford Commercial Truck dealerships in North America by early 2013.
The agreement allows Azure to integrate its plug-in-hybrid technology on the Ford F-Series Super Duty trucks, including the F-350 and F-450. In addition, the Super Duty agreement will allow Azure Dynamics to further expand its plug-in hybrid product line-up to other Ford medium duty commercial truck segment. The first F-550 Super Duty plug-in hybrid truck will be the F-550 Super Duty.
“We are extremely pleased to expand our relationship with Ford and launch our PHEV technology on the F-Series Super Duty platform, which is the largest and most successful cab and chassis brand in North America,” said Scott Harrison, Azure’s CEO. “This is an ideal outcome for Azure and our customers.”
Azure Dynamics and Ford have not released an estimation of fuel economy rating for the 2013 Ford F-Series Super Duty plug-in hybrid truck yet, but we expect it to achieve at least 35 percent of fuel saving. As gas prices are creeping up higher almost every month, it is just the right time for a plug-in hybrid truck.
