Almost every car manufacturer got a hybrid subcompact car, and Lotus wants one as well. Lotus has just confirmed production of its new Lotus Ethos hybrid subcompact car, and it is expect to hit the market with five other Lotus concept cars.
The Lotus Ethos subcompact will be based on the Lotus City Car Concept, which features the latest Lotus design language. According to Lotus spokesman Alastair Florance:
“We’ll work extensively on the engineering – the Lotus version will be very much a Lotus. But I believe there will be a Proton version.”
The Lotus Ethos subcompact car will be just about 138 inches in length, which is slightly larger than the Toyota iQ. It will be powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine along with an electric motor. Lotus claims the Ethos will be capable of driving up to 37.3 miles on electricity alone. When using the range-extended gasoline engine, the Ethos is capable of 311 miles.
The Lotus Ethos is scheduled to be available in mid of 2013.
