General Motors has just officially announced today that it is adding two new vehicles to the Cadillac’s lineup. The two new models are the XTS luxury sedan and compact ATS sport sedan. The official announcement was made by no other than Mark Reuss, North American President of General Motors, at the Center for Automotive Research’s Management Briefing Seminars.
The announcement isn’t new news, but it is official in which we will actually get to see these two new models in the production stage. We’ve have seen spy photos and video of the new Cadillac XTS and ATS sedans in recent months.
The Cadillac XTS is based on the XTS Platinum Concept that was debuted at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. It replaces both the Cadillac STS and DTS sedans. It is expected that the new Cadillac XTX will be built on the new Epsilon II platform, which features both front-wheel and all-wheel drive systems.
While the Cadillac ATS sport sedan will be used to fill the gap between the CTS. The new compact Cadillac ATS sport sedan will have a rear-wheel drive system, which is to rival the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4. We have seen video footage and photos showing the BMW 3 Series used as a benchmark at the GM facility, and it will be interesting to see how the new Cadillac AST sport sedan goes neck to neck with its competitors when it comes out next year.
The new Cadillac XTS will be available in the spring of 2012, while the Cadillac ATS sport sedan will be available in the summer of 2012.
