The 2012 Kia Soul gets a revised look with some minor tweaks and new infotainment options. Kia has justified that the $600 price increase is due to a revised 1.6-liter engine that is now come with direct injection technology to make it more powerful. In addition, the revised engine manages to provide a fuel return of 35 miles per gallon on the highway, which is about 4 mpg than previous model. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission instead of the 6-speed version. There is also an optional 6-speed automatic transmission, but that will put the Kia Soul at $15,700.
The top-of-the-line Kia Soul Sport trim is discontinued for 2012, the two models left are the Kia Soul Plus and the Soul Exclamation. The 2012 Kia Soul Plus is now equipped with a more powerfull 2.0-liter engine producing about 164 horsepower (+22 hp), and it starts at $16,300 for a manual transmission and $17,300 for an automatic transmission.
