Land Rover is gearing up for the next generation of its iconic Defender off-road vehicle. It has just confirmed that the new Land Rover DC100 will be in production in 2015. The Defender has been a true iconic of the automobile, and it is very challenging when it is time for a replacement.
According to Land Rover’s design boss, Gerry McGovern:
“Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide. This isn’t a production-ready concept but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century.”
Even though the Land Rover Defender has been on the road for a long time, there are so many better choices like its kind available in the market, and the Land Rover Defender isn’t what you would call a modern vehicle either. So, Land Rover is trying to guage public interest with its debut of the Defender at the Frankfurt Motor Show before actually making a decision for production.
So far, not technical details have been released for the Land Rover DC100 yet. We’ll know more soon at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
