Talk about excessive, the new Bentley SUV will get a 12-cylinder gasoline engine. In the time when gas-guzzling SUVs are left out to pasture, the new Bentley SUV sure does make the first impression.

No specific details about the V12 engine have been released yet, but we expect it will be the company’s W12 engine currently used in the Continental lineup. According to an interview with Autocar, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer said he that having a 12-cylinder gasoline engine “makes clear whose car is the boss.” Yeah, and it puts a big dent on your wallet too.

Bentley has put Rolf Frech as chief engineer to help design the new Bentely SUV. Rolf Frech who has extensive knowledge from Porsche, and has worked on the Porsche Cayenne before.

According to Bentley’s research, 99 percent of Bentley owners also owning an SUV. And here is what the company thinks about the likely success of its new Bentley SUV.

“Absolutely thousands of premium SUVs have been sold — Cayennes, Range Rovers, Q7s and so on — but nobody has given those owners the chance to upgrade. We will.” Dürheimer told AutoCar.
