Last week reported of the 2012 BMW 3-Series and mentioned of a hybrid version as well, and today, BMW has just released a few more details on the new 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 3.
The new 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 3 is powered by the same N55 300-hp turbocharged 6-clyinder engine found in the higher end 2012 BMW 335i model, but it is also coupled with a 55-hp electric motor for its hybrid system. Together, both the engine and electric motor produce 335 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. With solely on battery power, the BMW ActiveHybrid 3 has a traveling range of up to about two miles with a top speed of 37 mph.
And you are still waiting for the fuel economy numbers. Well, according to BMW, the average consumption in the EU test cycle is less than 6.4 liters per 100 kilometers, which is approximately to 36.7 mpg. And that is in European cycle. We don’t have U.S. EPA numbers yet.
Even though the 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 3 is a hybrid car, its performance is relatively similar to that of the top-range BMW 335i model. If you want the new 2012 BMW ActiveHybrid 3, you will have to wait at least a year from now, because it won’t be available until the fourth quarter of 2012.
