BMW has officially issued a recall on its 2008-2011 5-Series, 7-Series, X5 SAV, and X6 models due to a fire risk from a circuit board that controls an axillary water pump. All of the turbocharged eight- and twelve-cylinder engines in the 5 Series, 5 Series Gran Turismo, 7 Series, X5 and X6 are affected by this recall because they shared the same built electric auxiliary water pump.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the overheating circuit board could cause it to melt and start a fire, and BMW has found that there were two engine compartment fire cases out of the 102 reported cases.

There are about 32,000 BMW vehicles affected by this recall. Owners of affected vehicles can bring their cars to any BMW dealership for an inspection and replacement of the water pump free of charge. For more info, affected owners can call 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153 ), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
