Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback officially revealed for European market

Audi is introducing A1 Sportback five-door hatchback for the European market. The new Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback is designed to be more versatile as a people and cargo mover. Everything is relatively similar to the thee-door counterpart except that it has grown another two doors on the sides.

The new Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback is aimed to a younger customers who like a bit of modern look with practicality features. Inside, the Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback has about 9.5 cubic feet of cargo space, which can add another 32 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down. In addition, the new Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback features a loading deck in the rear that sits at about 25 inches above the ground.

The new Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback will be equipped with a total of six engine options, including three gasoline engines and three diesel engines. The most powerful of the bunch is the turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is rated at 185 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.

The rest of the engines are: the base 1.2L TFSI four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 86 hp and 118 lb-ft, a 1.4L TFSI supercharged gasoline engine producing 122 hp and 148 lb-ft of torque. While the three diesel engines are two 1.6L TDI engines that produce 90-hp and 105-hp, and the top-range is a 2.0L TDI diesel producing 143 hp.

All of the engines for the Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback can be mated to either a manual or 7-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic automatic transmission.

As for pricing, the new Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback starts at €16,950 for the base 1.2L TFSI model and €19,050 for the base 1.6L TDI. The A1 Sportback five-door will be available in Europe in early 2012, and Audi also stated that the new Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback won’t be available in the U.S. for this generation. And from experience, it means that the new Audi A1 Sportback five-door hatchback won’t be available in the U.S. until 2013.
