Toyota has revealed its GT 86 production model car, and now Subaru is following along with its BRZ sports coupe production model as well. The company has quietly sneak in with the unwrapping of its sports coupe over the holiday weekend as we were covering the Toyota GT 86 story.
But not all is lost. The Subaru BRZ sports coupe is not surprisingly any different than the Toyota GT 86 sports coupe, most of the detailed spec and design on this sports car are basically similar to the Toyota GT 86. Oops! We mentioned the Toyota GT 86 name more than the Subaru BRZ in this story. Well, it isn’t our fault that the two cars were designed and built similarly.
Like the Toyota GT 86 sports coupe, the Subaru BRZ sports coupe will be equipped with a normal aspirated 2.0-liter boxer engine producing about 200 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. The engine can be mated with a choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or automatic (shift paddles) transmission, and power is fed to the rear wheels. It seems that the four-cylinder boxer engine will do just for now, and as we have experienced with the Subaru WRX car, there will be a turbocharged version coming down the pipeline in the near future.
The Subaru BRZ sports coupe weighs similar to the Toyota GT 86 sports coupe. It has a nearly identical curb weigh of 2,689 pounds. And with a lower center of gravity, the Subaru BRZ sports coupe is deemed to be an agile sport car. We will see and have more details when the Subaru BRZ sports coupe makes its appearance at the Tokyo Motor Show next week.
Stay tuned as we have more photos and videos of the Subaru BRZ sports coupe coming up next week. Meanwhile you can check out the video below of the Subaru BRZ concept model at the L.A. Auto Show last week.
