Bentley is toning down the power envelope with its latest 2012 Continental GTC V8. The company has officially announced that its new Bentley Continental GT V8 coupe and GTC V8 convertible will debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The new 2012 Bentley Continental GTC V8 is now equipped with a more efficient 4.0-liter V8 twin turbocharged engine producing just about 500 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of torque. The new engine is mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission to produce an acceleration time from 0 to 60 mph in just 5 second and with a top speed of 180 mph.
While the performance numbers are exceptional, the 2012 Bentley Continental GTC V8 also fuel efficient than its brethren W12 engine. The sports car now can travel up to a distance of 500 miles on a full tank (24-gallon tank) of gas. That is about 21 miles per gallon, which is very decent for car of its stature. To further enhance fuel saving, the new V8 engine features variable valve displacement with an engine management system that can shut down four cylinders under light throttle load.
“With the new 4.0 litre V8 engine we are widening the appeal of the latest generation of Continentals, introducing a completely new driving experience,” said Wolfgang Durheimer, Chairman and Chief Executive, Bentley Motors. “The new engine will have all the exhilarating power, drama and performance you would expect from a V8 engine sporting the famous Bentley wings, effortlessly delivered with our characteristic ‘wave of torque’. This is complemented by innovative powertrain technology that delivers exceptional fuel efficiency and emissions.”
Aside from the more fuel efficient engine, the 2012 Bentley Continental GTC V8 gets a bit of aesthetic changes. It gets a new black grille with chrome accents and red Bentley “B” badge to show its apart from the W12 version. In addition to the 20-inch wheels, it now comes with new set of tailpipes.
Both 2012 Bentley Continental GTC V8 coupe and sedan will make its debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show on January 9th, 2012.
