BWM has officially unveiled the highly anticipated 2013 6 Series Gran Coupe with a four-door style rather than the previous two-door style. The new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe will compete with other luxury cars in its segment, including the Porsche Panamera, Mercedes-Benz CLS, and Audi A7.

The result of the additional two doors makes the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe more like a sports sedan rather than a sports coupe. We don’t why BMW still wants to call it a coupe. With the added two doors, the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe measures at 197 inches in length, 74.6 inches wide, 54.8 inches in height, and sits on a wheelbase of 116.8 inches. This makes the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe 4.4 inches longer than the two-door 6 Series coupe.

“Harmonious proportions, precise lines and sleekly contoured surfaces give the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe the unique ability to satisfy the driver who wants a luxurious and sporty coupe yet needs a car capable of carrying four adults in comfort and luxury,” BMW said in a statement.”

At any case, the 2013 BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe will be first available as the 640i version for the U.S. market. The 2013 BMW 640i model will be equipped with the N55 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine to produce about 315 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque. This allows the BMW 640i to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Later be available is the BMW 650i Gran Coupe, which can either be had as a rear-wheel drive or xDrive all-wheel drive. Power for the 2013 BMW 650i model comes from a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine producing 445 hp and 480 lb-ft. The BMW 650i can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 4.6 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

All engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. In addition, the automatic transmission features BMW’s Driving Dynamics Control, which comes with ECO PRO mode to allow different fuel saving and comfort driving conditions such as ECO PRO, COMFORT+, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+.
