After the shrinkage of Chrysler Group LLC and combined with Fiat, the Dodge Viper was discontinued in July of 2009. Designer chief Ralph Gilles announced that the Dodge Viper could return in 2012. Gilles said work continues on what a next-generation Viper would look like if approval is given to bring it back into the portfolio. He also said that the Viper is not a priority right now.
In the current 2009 Dodge Viper, it is equipped with an 8.4L V10 engine that produces about a 600 horsepower with 560 lb-ft of torque. It can sprint from 0-60 in four seconds, that’s disappointing compared to the Corvette ZR-1 with a smaller displacement engine. Whatever it is, given the economy and Chrysler’s financial situation, it is less likely that the Viper will be back in 2012.
