Even Lamborghini is feeling the pinch of the dire world’s economy. Instead of putting all in its eggs in one basket like in the past, the company is diversifying its portfolio of cars to gain some market shares. In which, it plans to introduce a SUV/crossover that is similar to the Porsche Cayenne.
The introduction of a Lamborghini LB736 crossover will be a historically event for Lamborghini. The company has been designing fast supercars for ages, and now a crossover? Porsche has done it, and it is successful at it with the Cayenne.
So what will this Lamborghini “LB736” crossover look like? Well, from the Italian magazine Quattroroute above shows that it has a front fascia of the new Lamborghini Aventador. Speculation was that it would come from the Aventador Roadster as a concept model, but the production model will be a version of the Sesto Elemento as a crossover or even a sedan model.
If you can read Italian in the article posted by Quattroroute magazine, it states that the Lamborghini LB736 crossover will be based on the Audi Q7 platform. Certainly the Audi Q7 isn’t exactly a small SUV. It has seating for up to 7 passengers. From the photo above (Photoshop), we can see that Lamborghini LB736 crossover is the same size as the Porsche Cayenne. So we doubt it if Lamborghini wanted to make such large SUV in the beginning.
In addition, the Lamborghini LB736 crossover is reported to be built on an aluminum and carbon fiber body, with a curb weight at about 4,400 pounds, which is near an average weight of most crossovers (exception to the V10 engine). And like the Lamborghini sports car, it will be equipped with either a V10 or an electrically assisted V8 engine to produce about 700 horsepower.
The Lamborghini “LB 736” crossover will be ready to debut at the next Geneva Motor Show in April, and it will go on sale in 2015.
