2013 BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible with 4.4L twin-turbo V8 come out to play

After many spy and teaser photos, the 2013 BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible are finally here. BMW has released details on the new BMW M6 ahead of its debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show next month.

So what is new on the BMW M6? For starter, it carries the new V8 twin-turbo engine that is similar to the recent BMW M5 model. But what we have here in the new 2013 BMW M6 is the distillation of the best stuff from the M5 to a two-door form, and we may add a convertible version as well.

As we mentioned earlier, at the heart of the M6 Coupe and Cabriolet is the twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine producing 560 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, with a fuel consumption that has been reduced by 30 percent while power has increased by 10 percent compared to the V10 engine. The engine is mated to the same seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as the BMW M5. And according to BMW, the 2013 M6 Coupe can accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4.2 seconds, and the convertible version is about 4.3 seconds.

For those who still enjoy a manual gearbox, a six-speed manual option is under consideration later. Also included in the 2013 BMW M6 is the Active M Differential, which composed of an electronically controlled multi-plate limited slip differential that works in conjunction with the DSC and the new Dynamic Damper Controls to electro-hydraulically change the damping force on-the-fly as needed.

All the new found power is good for the 2013 BMW M6 Coupe and Convertible, but a bigger braking system is needed to stop on a dime. And to help with the braking power, BMW has included massive 16.1-inch carbon ceramic rotors in front featuring six piston calipers, and along with 15.6-inch rotors in the rear with a single-piston caliper. Wheels for the BMW M6 come in standard as 19-inch alloy rims with 265/40 R19 tires in front and 295/35 R19 tires in the rear. In addition, a set of 20-inch lightweight alloy wheels is also available as an option.

Oddly, sales of theĀ 2013 BMW M6 Convertible will be available first this June, while theĀ 2013 BMW M6 Coupe will be available this summer as a 2013 model.
