Porsche Macan small sport utility is officially announced

We know that the Porsche Cayenne crossover is not that big to begin with, so the Porsche Macan small sport utility will be even smaller with its raked windshield and low slung stance.  According to Bernhard Maier, Executive Vice President Sales and Marketing of Porsche AG, “The Macan combines all sports car characteristics with the benefits of an SUV and is a genuine Porsche.” He also added that “The name of a new Porsche has to fit with the brand, sound good in very many languages and dialects and evoke positive associations.”

From what we know, the new Porsche Macan small sport utility will be based on the same chassis as the Audi Q5. And there is also hint of a hybrid version and three-door version as well.

The Macan will be built at the Porsche factory in Leipzig, Germany. Production will start in 2013. In the meantime, watch the introduction video below.
