New 2013 Toyota Auris isn’t Matrix replacement

The new 2013 Toyota Auris may look like the Prius, and it is not a Matrix replacement either.  It is designed to be sharper with more distinctive styling reflecting the new face of Toyota.  According to the company, the Auris represents a “determination to engineer cars that are more appealing and dynamically engaging to drive while building on its long-established reputation for quality, durability and reliability.”

Although the 2013 Toyota Auris looks similar to the Prius, it is designed to be more aerodynamic along with sportiness appeal to a younger audience.  To that extent, the 2013 Toyota Auris can achieve a 0.28 drag coefficient.  In addition, the car has been lenghtened about 30 mm (1.2 inches) and lowered by 55 mm (2.2 inches) to provide a lower stance for aggressive corning, that is if you have the tendency for spirited driving.  Overall, the lower stance lowers the hatchback’s center of gravity and cuts weight by up to 88 pounds.

As for the interior, it gets upgraded features throughout, such as soft-textured door grips, padded armrests on the doors, fabric-trimmed pillars, satin silver finishes, leather trimming on the dash on some models, a soft-touch covering on the IP’s upper surface and stitched nappa leather around the steering wheel.  But best of all is the panoramic roof that gets Skyview with its huge panorama glass roof.

There seems to be more room on the new 2013 Toyota Auris as well, of which the rear passenger seats have about 20 mm more knee room and 90 mm more for the feet.  And for the cargo space, all hatchback models come with a 360 liters (12.7 cubic feet) capacity.  In addition, even the tailgate gets a wider opening.

For power, the new 2013 Toyota Auris will be offered a choice of three powertrains in the C-segment and this continues with the new model. Efficiency and dynamic improvements have been made to the Hybrid Synergy Drive system, which will be offered in Auris Hybrid. Within the UK the new model will also feature 1.4-litre diesel and 1.33 and 1.6-litre petrol engines.

The new 2013 Toyota Auris will make its debut at the 2012 Paris Motor Show later this month, so stay tuned for more details and interior photos.
