Peugeot Onyx supercar concept will come with matching scooter

The fancy car company Peugeot has unveiled its Onyx supercar, and from what we know, the company is also planning to have a matching three-wheeled scooter concept to go along with it.

The powerful Peugeot Onyx supercar concept is an all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid coupe, which is equipped with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing about 256 horsepower to the rear wheels, while the front wheels get their power from a 120-hp electric motor. But power output can be configured up to 680 horsepower on the top-range model. For the hybrid model, it equates to about 58 miles per gallon, according to the company.

In the quest to squeeze more juice per gallon, the company has also created a matching scooter for it.  The Peugeot Onyx three-wheel scooter is equipped with a 400cc engine paired with an electric motor for a combined 60 horsepower and 43 pound-feet to the rear wheel. Peugeot says it can travel up to 30 miles on electric alone at 31 mph.

We’ll find out more about the Peugeot Onyx supercar and three-wheel scooter at the Paris Motor Show later this month.

Update: 9/27/2012

The Peugeot Onyx supercar is now at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. The new supercar is compact and light, which measured at 4.65m long, 2.20m wide, 1.13m high and weighted in at only 2,420 pounds. This equates to less than 4.4 pounds per horsepower when divided with the maximum horsepower. You can imagine the shear acceleration of this ultralight vehicle. Power underneath its carbon fiber shell is the 3.7-litre V8 hybrid HDi FAP engine producing 600 horsepower and mated to a six-speed sequential gearbox. To put power to the ground, the supercar is fitted with Michelin, 275/30 at the front and 345/30 at the rear. The suspension is consisted of a double wishbone and an in-board controlled suspension, both at the front and at the rear.

In addition, the Peugeot Onyx supercar is equipped with Intelligent, the HYbrid4 technology recovers the kinetic energy from braking, then stored in lithium-ion batteries. This energy is then delivered automatically on acceleration, boosting the power by an additional 80 hp.

“Onyx has the strength of a supercar, with extremely aerodynamic lines. It is made unique by its sculpted, chiselled style and by the innovative materials and structure.” Gilles Vidal, Peugeot Style Director.
