Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive supercar got your electric blue

Feeling electric blue lately for all the electric cars available on the market, and you can’t afford one? Well here is another one for you, Mercedes-Benz is touting its most powerful AMG car ever built, and it is all-electric underneath the hood. The latest Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive supecar will even get you more bluer with all the horsepower it has in its electric motors.  Although we get to see the production model just yet, but the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive supecar is debuting today at the 2012 Paris Motor Show gives us a good look of what future cars will be like.

The new Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive supecar will have other electric car manufacturers something to think about, namely Tesla Motors. As we can tell, the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive supecar seems like a ready-production car. The company has developed the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive supecar for quite a few years now, since the initial introduction of the SLS platform. Actually, according to the company, the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is in the final production specifications.

What makes the all-electric Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive supecar are its four electric motors, with each positioned close to each wheel; so there is no power loss here in this beast. The total combined output from these four electric motors equates to 740 hp (750PS, 552kW) and a staggering maximum torque of 737.5 lb-ft (1,000 Nm). Mercedes claims that the all-electric supercar can accelerates from 0-62 mph in a blitz of 3.9 seconds and top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph. Definitely, we should get rid of that speed limiter when we get our hands in one.

“Our new electric SLS symbolizes the dynamism of the Mercedes-Benz brand in a particularly impressive fashion”, said Dr. Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz at the launch of the all-electric SLS.

So, how much would you ask for the Mercedes SLS AMG Electric Drive supecar? Oh, not much, just a measly €416,500 (US$538,500). If you don’t have that kind of dough laying around, you can experience it with the video below or check out the above. [9-28-2012]
