Ford is recalling about 150,000 Fiesta models that were built from November 2009 to September 2012 due to a potential failure of the side curtain airbags deployment. The affected Fiesta models are labeled as the 2011 to 2013.

According to the recall, the side curtain airbags, which cover both the front and rear passengers, will not deploy during a side impact collision if the front passenger seat is empty. The design was made to function only for the front passenger seat, not for the rear passenger seats. In this failure case, an occupant in the right rear seating position will not have coverage from the side curtain air bag in a side impact collision when the front passenger seat is empty.

Ford is currently notifying Fiesta owners whose vehicles are covered under this recall. Owners of affected vehicles can bring their cars to any of the Ford dealerships for a reprogram of the software free of charge. For more information contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.
