The 2014 Kia Forte compact sedan takes a second bow at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The new improved five-door hatchback and coupe models are more eye catching than its predecessor when first introduced a few years ago. Kia vowed to make 2014 Kia Forte compact sedan more enjoyable to drive while providing great fuel economy in its segment.
The new 2014 Kia Forte sedan received a totally new design. It has design cues that can be found in the Kia Sportage, which is modern and luxurious. As a matter of fact, according to the company, the 2014 Kia Forte compact sedan is “inspired by European sport sedans” but designed from California at Kia’s American Design Center in Irvine. You will notice that the new compact sedan is a bit bigger, which is about 1.2 inches longer (106.3 inches long), 0.2 inch wider, and 0.6 inch lower than the previous model. The overall increase in dimensions provided the Forte more interior space for both passenger and cargo space.
Power for the 2014 Kia Forte compact sedan is provided by either a 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine producing 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque, or a 2.0-liter four-cylinder GDI engine producing 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. Both engines can be had with either a standard six speed manual transmission or an optional six speed automatic gearbox.
In addition, there are improvements to ride quality of the Kia Forte as well. It now uses McPherson strut front suspension and a coupled torsion beam rear axle, and a new electric power steering. The ride quality can now be dialed in as Comfort, Normal and Sport driving modes.
The all-new 2014 Kia Forte compact sedan will go on sale in first quarter of 2013, and it will be available in three versions: sedan, coupe, and hatchback. There is a big market for compact sedans, and it will have to compete with the likes of Honda Civic, Ford Focus, and Chevy Cruze.
