The 2013 Audi RS6 Avant sports wagon has finally showed its face. Audi has just released full details on this sports wagon, and by the way, this isn’t your mommy’s wagon. The new 2013 Audi RS6 Avant sports wagon is fitted with a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter TFSI V8 engine, which will give a new meaning to grocery shopping.
The latest 2013 Audi RS6 Avant sports wagon is about 220 pounds lighter than the previous generation RS6 Avant, and although it is a bit less powerful with 560 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, it can get around town with 24 mpg combined. Thanks to the stop/start technology, cylinder deactivation and a new 8-speed tiptronic transmission, this sports wagon is about 40 percent more fuel efficient than the previous model with the 5.0-liter V10 engine (571 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque).
Performance wise, the new 2013 Audi RS6 Avant sports wagon can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed that is electronically limited to 155 mph. But if you opt for the Dynamic package, it can speed up to 174 mph or 190 mph with the Dynamic Plus package. Performance standard equipment comes with torque vectoring, dual-mode exhaust with switchable flaps, and six-pot calipers on the front rotors.
Of course, when have to think of wagons, you have to keep in mind of ride quality. The new 2013 Audi RS6 Avant sports wagon comes with adaptive air suspension to keeps things comfortable. There is also an electronic stabilization control with a Sport mode that can be deactivated entirely if you wish to take full control of this beast. The ride quality can be further enhanced with the optional sport differential, sport suspension with Dynamic Ride Control, dynamic steering, carbon fiber ceramic brakes, a sport exhaust and 21-inch wheels.
Stopping power is provided by four vented discs, with 15.35 inch disc up front featuring six-piston calipers. Audi also offers 16.54-inch carbon fiber-ceramic brake discs as an option.
As for looks, the 2013 Audi RS6 Avant sports wagon gets bulging wheel arches to make it looks more muscular, matte aluminum and high-gloss black trim, a larger rear diffuser and two oval exhaust tailpipes. And for the interior, it is much covered in black with contrasting red and white accents. There are also a lot of carbon-fiber and aluminum trims to go around as well. The whole appearance of the cabin resembles of a sports car rather than a wagon, which features two sporty rear seats as standard or a bench seat as an option. And behind the rear seats, it has about 60 cubic feet of storage space just in case you need to carry something gnarly around.
The new 2013 Audi RS6 Avant sports wagon goes on sale in Europe in the beginning of next year, and whether or not it will be available in the U.S. later on is still up in the air. But given the experience with Audi and the 2013 BMW 3 Series Sports Wagon in the States, we will definitely see one here as well.
