The one car that we all have been excitedly waiting for a long time in 17 years or so, and now it is coming here in the United States. We present to you the new 2014 Chevrolet SS, which is the first rear-wheel drive performance sedan from Chevrolet in a long time.
The 2014 Chevrolet SS performance sedan is based on the same version as the Australian VF Holden Commodore sedan, but what lies beneath the hood will throw your socks off. At the heart of its performance is a massive 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine producing 445 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque, which is also used to power the new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C6 (has 35 hp and lb-ft of torque more.)
With a six-speed automatic transmission featuring shift paddles on the steering wheel, the 2014 Chevrolet SS performance sedan can blast from 0-60 mph “in about five seconds.” Now that is fast and furious, which makes it one of the quickest sedans on the market as of today.
“The Chevrolet brand was largely built on the strength of rear-drive performance sedans, yet it’s been 17 years since we’ve offered one,” said Mark Reuss, president of General Motors North America. “The all-new Chevrolet SS fills that void and fills it better than any other vehicle in the brand’s rich history. The comfort, convenience, spaciousness and V-8 power make the SS a total performance package unlike any other on the road today.”
Besides the behemoth V8 engine in the 2014 Chevrolet SS performance sedan, it uses four-piston Brembo calipers up front, a single sliding piston in back for stopping power, and 19-inch forged aluminum wheels wrapped in ultra-high-performance Bridgestone tires: 19 x 8.5 inch wheels with 245/40ZR19 tires in front and 19 x 9.0 inch wheels with 275/35ZR19 tires rear. Also, electronic power steering system, aluminum hood and trunk are employed to keep the weight down and lower the center of gravity, with near 50/50 weight distribution.
Chevrolet didn’t spare much when it comes to luxury and performance within the cabin of the new 2014 Chevrolet SS. The cabin space is big enough to hold five adults comfortably. It comes with leather seating surfaces, eight-way power front seats, and a soft-touch dash are standard. In addition, a nine-speaker Bose sound system, a head-up display and safety tech like Lane Departure Warning and Side Blind Zone alert. And for the first time, Automatic Parking Assist that can parallel and right-angle park is available as an optional equipment.
The 2014 Chevrolet SS was debuted last weekend at the Daytona International Speedway as the SS racecar makes its NASCAR debut during the Daytona 500. It will be available in the fourth quarter of 2013, with prices set closer to the on-sale date.
