There is a big fan market for the Volkswagen Golf GTI compact car. It may be the most sought after car in the compact car segment. With every new iteration, Volkswagen promises better performance and fuel efficiency. So here we are with the new 2014 VW Golf GTI model, which will make its debut at the Geneva Auto Show next week.
So, what is new for the 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI compact car? Besides the familiar shape, Volkswagen promises to offer more power and an 18% improvement in fuel economy. That is a sizable amount when we know that the VW GTI is already a fuel-efficient vehicle. This hot hatchback is fitted with a 2.0-liter TSI turbocharged direct-injected four-cylinder gasoline engine, producing about 220 horespower and 258 pound-feet of torque. There is also an optional “boost” capability, which can add another 10 hp under needed conditions. To further improve fuel efficiency, the 2014 VW Golf GTI also comes with Stop-Start technology. This translates an estimated of 36 mpg on the combined European cycles.
On the exterior, the 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI compact car is equipped with red-painted brake calipers, twin chrome tailpipes, and a lowered sport suspension. The exterior looks continue with 17-inch “Brooklyn” GTI wheels and 225/45 tires, special side skirts, a rear diffuser, and smoked LED taillights with LED license-plate illumination.
And for the interior, the car also offers classic GTI features such as a sport steering wheel, GTI shifter knob grip and instrument cluster, special trim inserts, and stainless- steel pedals and foot support.
The new 2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI compact car will be available in May of 2013 in Europe for a price of just 28,350 Euros. Customers can choose from three body colors: “Tornado Red”, “Black” and “Pure White”. Pricing and availability for U.S. customers will be announced later in 2013.
