Toyota will unveil its new FT-86 Open concept at the Geneva Motor Show next week, and this will be the first time ever of its introduction. The 2013 Toyota FT-86 Open Concept is created to test the water for the possible introduction of a convertible version. It features the same 2+2 design as the coupe, but comes with a retractable soft-top roof.
Dimension wise, the new 2013 Toyota FT-86 Open concept is measured the same as the coupe version, which are 4,240 mm in length, 1,750 mm in width, and 1,270 mm in height. It has the same 2+2 seating format as the coupe. The fixed hard-top is now replaced by a multilayer fabric roof with a glass rear screen, which can be folded down behind the fixed rear seats to provide more cargo space.
For power, the 2013 Toyota FT-86 Open Concept gets the same 2.0-liter flat-four-cylinder engine as the coupe, and it is mated to either six-speed manual or paddle-shifting automatic. In addition to the drop-top conversion, the suspension and chassis were also slightly revised to handle the change in structure and weight.
The 2013 Toyota FT-86 Open Concept is expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week, and Toyota plans to have the Toyota FT-86 Open convertible production available world wide.
