In a series of track records, one supercar is trying to outdone the other, and the last the time the Corvette ZR1 bested the new Dodge SRT Viper of its fastest time on the track. But as we know all too well, Dodge won’t just stand around in the sideline to let the Corvette camp pass by it easily. Dodge has just introduced the new Crusher Orange SRT Viper TA, and it has a new track record that would put the Corvette ZR1 behind on this round.
If you are wonder what the ‘TA’ moniker stands for in the new Viper, well, it stands for Time Attack; sounds like the Dodge camp is out to get rid of the Corvette ZR1 for good. Only 33 units in special “Crusher Orange” exterior paint color will be available beginning third quarter 2013. And with professional racecar driver Randy Pobst behind the wheel, we’ll be sure that the test is as objective as possible at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
To get better track time, the Crusher Orange SRT Viper TA is built with a balanced package to provide an ultralow center of gravity and 50/50 weight distribution. Under the hood of the 2014 SRT Viper TA is the handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4-liter, mid-front V10 overhead-valve engine that produces about 640 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. With bigger Brembo brakes, a carbon fiber aero package that includes a larger rear wing, lighter wheels, and Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires. Other weight saving components include a new carbon fiber X-brace under the hood, two-mode remote reservoir shocks to adjust the added settings of Smooth and Rough.
According to Motor Trend who did the test, the new Crusher Orange SRT Viper TA can blast from 0-60 mph in just 3.3 seconds and a quarter mile in approximately 3.3 seconds at a speed of 129.3 mph. But could it beat the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, which beat it last time at Laguna Seca? Check out the video below to see for yourself.
