2011 Mustang GT dyno 620x412 2011 Ford Mustang GT gets put on a Dyno

The 2011 Ford Mustang GT is not at the dealerships yet, but many car publications are putting it on the dyno and burn-out tests. As you remember, the new 2011 Ford Mustang GT is powered by the new 5.0-liter V8 4-valve Twin Independent Variable Camshalft Timing (Ti-VCT), which produces about 412 horsepower at 390 lb-ft peaked torque.

To verify Ford’s claim of 412 horsepower, Inside Line (Edmunds) loaded the 2011 Ford Mustang GT on a dyno for the test.

Here is Inside Line’s findings,

With 250 lb-ft on tap at 2,000 rpm, torque starts out pretty strong. It then builds linearly and remains above 350 lb-ft from 4,150 to 5,500 rpm before tapering gently to the 6,850-rpm fuel cut. Peak numbers are 365 lb-ft of torque at 4,350 rpm and 395 hp at 6,600 rpm. All of these at-the-wheels figures were obtained in 4th gear on a Dynojet 248 chassis dyno and include a 3% SAE weather correction factor.

As you can see, Ford is not exaggerating about the 2011 Mustang GT’s horsepower. Now you need to consider that the 412 horsepower is engine horsepower not at the wheels. On a manual transmission, we can see an average reduction of 10 percent horsepower at the rear wheels. And on an automatic transmission, we see an average reduction of 15 percent horsepower at the rear wheels.

The bottom line here is Ford wants you to get more bang for your buck in the new 2011 Ford Mustang. Watch the videos below for yourself.

@AJballer The Gingerman is considered an amatuer track hence its easy turns and straights. It doesnt demand much out of a car. If you’ve ever driven an M3 which I gurantee you haven’t you’d know how easy it is to drive it fast. It has a perfect weight distribution and modern suspension technology. Go to a real track and the M3 would kill it.

@helianimal Oh wow mr. Youtube tough guy, The ZR1 uses Magentic Selective IRS, the same as you’ll find in a 599 GTB and 458 Italia. You can look that up. As for Tranverse leafsprings? You mean the C5 Vette you idiot, Look up a C6 chassis and you wont find any leafspring. 5.0? As far as OHC engines go its not impressive, you can look up many comprable OHC engines from Europe and they stomp the 5.0. Dont get all happy to compare it to total different engine type.

@Greendude33 Kid, check your facts dont type magniloquent blather. The C6 Z06 & ZR1 use 2 transverse leaf springs instead of coil springs. The C6R uses coils. But if you had a Z06 you’d know that. BTW did you trade your imaginary ZR1 in for a pretend Z06? Hell the C6/LS3 doesn’t even have a dry sump like the Mustang, nor cooling squirters under the pistons. The high tech aluminum TiVVT 5.0 only weighs 20lbs more than the antique LS3.

@Greendude33 I think he means in the sense that the ’03-’04 cobra’s had IRS and this new mustang outhandles them. They’ve obviously done something right, for 33 grand this car will flat out GET DOWN.

  • AJballer

@Greendude33 Yes it’s obviously not the “ring”, but it is a circuit. There’s no telling what would happen between two normal drivers. The M3 lap took little effort? I don’t think anyone takes a sunday stroll through any track trying to get the best lap time. True maybe the driver of the mustang had to go 100% to get that time but why wouldn’t he? He’s trying to set record for that particular car.
