Hyundai will unveil its first hybrid car, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, next Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show. Unlike other hybrid cars, the new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will get its own fascia. The new fascia has a massive grille to give the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid a low aggressive stance and futuristic look. This is not your mom-like hybrid car. The Hyundai Sonata Hybrid will be its first hybrid car to the U.S. market, and it wants to make a first, big impression.
Speculations have shown that likely the same fuel efficient 2.4-liter direct injection four-cylinder engine with be used in conjunction with a 30-kW electric motor. The 2.4-liter engine will be re-tuned to the more efficient Atkinson cycle like other hybrids. As for the gearbox, to keep costs down, Hyundai will use a conventional 6-speed automatic transmission instead of a gas-electric trany like other hybrid cars.
The 2011 Hyundai Sonata hybrid and its gasoline 2.0-liter turbo version will both be revealed at a live video webcast on HyundaiMediaLive.com at 1:35pm on Wednesday, March 31. We have seen this much interesting news from Hyundai since its debut of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
