From the patent drawing that General Motor filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office shows obvious signs of an unidentified Chevrolet four-door sedan.
And now spy shooters have captured a prototype of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in testing ground. From the look of the spy shots, it doesn’t look much different like we had anticipated in the patent drawing. But beneath the sheet metal, the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu will be built on GM’s new Epsilon II platform; just like the same platform used in the new Buick Regal and LaCrosse.
With the Epsilon II platform, the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu will be slightly taller and wider. Also, expect to see interior of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in the same grade as the LaCrosse and Buick Regal.
All of this adds to a more competent 2012 Chevrolet Malibu that able it to compete against the Honda Accord, Honda Camry, Ford Fusion and others like it.
GM is already planned to make the Chevrolet Malibu as its “bread and butter” car, and it’s upped the ante. The next Malibu will probably debut in the fourth quarter of 2011, and we may see it at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show against other competitors.
