Numbers don’t lie. The unofficial drag race between the 2011 Mustang GT versus the 2010 Camaro SS was already done by Popular Hot Rodding when it got a hold of the 2011 Ford Mustang GT. The unofficial drag race was done last week’s media launch for the new 2011 Mustangs in Camarillo Airport, California. The showdown between the 412-hp 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 and the 426-hp 2010 Camaro SS, with both cars in the six-speed automatic transmissions.
The 2010 Camaro SS managed to muster out 8.82 seconds at 83 mph down the strip, but the Mustang is a bit faster at 8.62 seconds at 86 mph. All journalists at the scene recorded better times in the 2011 Mustang GT. In the quarter mile number calculations, the Camaro SS is equal to 13.8 seconds and the Mustang GT is equal to 13.5 seconds.
With base price of the 2011 Mustang GT at $30,500, low fuel economy, and better numbers at the strip, the 2011 Mustang GT seems to have an upper edge over its competition. Ford seems to have hit all the sweet spots on the 2011 Mustang this time.
