Due to overwhelming interest shown for the new Ford Focus RS500, Ford has decided to release more information today. The high anticipated Ford Focus RS500 made its video debut last week but with no specs available. It will make its global debut at the 2010 Leipzig Motor Show in Germany on April 9.
The limited edition model sports a unique matte black ‘foil’ paint finish with matching alloy wheels to deliver a powerful visual impact which is unlike any other production Ford. From its stunning looks to its intoxicating performance, the RS500 will be a great track car for performance car enthusiasts.
“The more urgent engine sound and sheer thrust of the mid-range performance tell the driver immediately that this is not a standard Focus RS,” said Gunnar Herrmann, Ford’s Global C-Car Vehicle Line Director. “With 15 per cent more power and the same gutsy, sporting character, our new powertrain gives the RS500 the special engine it deserves.”
The Ford Focus RS500 is powered by a 2.5-liter five-cylinder, which produces about 345 horsepower at 339 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm. The boosted power in the Ford Focus RS500 is about 15 percent more power than the standard Ford Focus RS. The achieved power of 345 hp is done through a revised cylinder head gasket, ultra-durable metal sprayed cylinder bores, revised pistons and new connecting rods.
With advanced front wheel drive chassis on the 19-inch wheels, which combines a wider track, the unique ‘RevoKnuckle’ front suspension design and a Quaife helical limited slip differential to deliver responsive steering, outstanding traction and a minimum of unwanted torque steer. Preliminary runs of the new Ford Focus RS500 indicate that it achieves from 0 – 62 mph in 5.6 seconds at 162 mph.
The Focus RS500 is strictly-limited in production to about 500 individually-numbered vehicles, all of which will be offered for customers to purchase.
