Today Toyota unveiled the 2011 Scion iQ mini at the New York Auto Show to be sold in the North American continent. The 2011 Scion iQ is Toyota’s affordable version of the Aston Martin Cygnet, which costs at an outrageous starting price of $33,000. The 2011 Scion iQ is not only friendly on the wallet but also environmental friendly at the same time.
The 2011 Scion iQ is about 120 inches long, which about 30 inches shorter than the Toyota Yaris. It has a width of 66 inches and 79-inch wheelbase. So, you can imagine how small is the Scion iQ mini.
The 2011 Scion iQ has an odd seating configuration. The three-door hatch back has seating for 3+1 in an asymmetrical configuration with the driver’s and front passenger’s seats being slightly offset. The rear seats can be folded flat to create enough space to accommodate about two golf bags.
The 2011 Scion iQ is powered by a 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces about 90 horsepower, enough to get you around town. Toyota estimated fuel economy of the Scion iQ mini is about 30 miles per gallon, and we assume this is in the city.
All the goodies and Toyota’s safety technologies will come in standard in the 2011 Scion iQ mini, which it includes 10 SRS airbags a six-speaker audio system with USB and auxiliary ports. Active safety features include Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), an anti-lock brake system (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA) and Traction Control (TRAC).
The 2011 Scion iQ will go on sale in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2011. No word on the pricing yet but we expect it to be in the price range of the Toyota Yaris, if not less. And that price range is from $12,000 to $13,000. So, skip that overpriced Aston Martin Cygnet and wait for the 2011 Scion iQ mini instead.
