I didn’t know there was such a thing as a “Pet Safe Vehicle of the Year” title. To that, there exist two safety organizations for pets, Bark Buckle UP and Doggie Seat Belt. If you didn’t know just like me, now you know. Both of these pet safety organizations recommended and endorsed the 2011 Ford Edged as Pet Safe Vehicle of the Year.

“Most people don’t think about it, but in only a 35 mph accident with a 60-pound pet it becomes a 2,700-pound projectile. This will injure the pet, passengers, driver or the pet may escape the vehicle and cause a second accident or become agitated and bite the first responder that is on scene doing their job,” stated Selter. Come to think of it, I couldn’t agree more.

Anyway, Bark Buckle UP gave its Top Dog awards away at the New York Auto Show, and the Ford Edge bouncing away with the Pet Safe Vehicle of Choice Top Dog award by the end of the day.

“The Ford Edge is perfect for those traveling with pets,” says Ford Edge marketing manager Brett Burin upon the Edge’s crowning. The Ford Edge won this award the base on a number of reasons cited by Bark Buckle Up, and those are the Ford Edge’s combination of space, ease of ingress and egress for the dogs, rear ventilation and adaptability to pet gear.
