Audi is preparing a high-performance S8, which may have a V10 engine from Lamborghini. A prototype of the next-generation Audi S8 was recently caught strolling around the Nurburgring back streets. Some speculated that it may be the 2011 Audi A8 instead, due to its subtle changes.
Whatever year model it is, word is that the next generation of the Audi S8 will have a 5.2-liter V10 engine with RS6 forced-induction from a pair of twin turbos. Estimated power is expected around 620 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque. That is a significant power and torque increase when compared to the old Audi S8, which has 444 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque.
Don’t expect an RS8 version to be available any time soon. Audi plans to have the new A8 family comes in a plug-in hybrids by 2012. However, you still can get the new 2011 Audi A8 when it goes on sale later this year.
