Since the debut of the Toyota FT-86 Concept, its revisions got a little more expensive each time that it went over its original goal as being an affordable sports car for under $20,000, and that is not what Toyota wanted.
Well, Toyota has decided to built a smaller FT-86 to bring the price down. It plans to introduce a 109-hp engine front-engined, rear-wheel-drive FT-86 by 2012. Perhaps a truly affordable sports car doesn’t exist. The Toyota FT-86 might as well be a Scion XB instead. But will a 109-hp engine be considered to weak for a sports car? We think so.
